I am Mònica Benages, an amateur wine enthusiast who lives in the city of Barcelona.

 

18 years ago I was totally teetotal, in fact, I was the black sheep of the family where cava was totally common at parties and celebrations. Until one day my father starts working at a well-known brand of wines and cavas based in Perelada and starts bringing cavas... and wines from the brand. And that's where the curiosity begins. I start with sparkling wines (which I don't like) and from there I continue investigating. In these eighteen years, I have gone from not tasting a drop of alcohol to loving this world and looking for pairings in any wine, especially beyond conventional pairings.

In recent years I have discovered that my maternal great-great-grandmother (my great-great-grandmother's mother) was from La Rioja, specifically from El Villar (Bilar). My incursions into the Rioja area in recent years, both for genealogy and to know and learn more about Rioja wines, are almost constant. Now, going through that area once a year is necessary for me.

A few years ago I liked a type of wine that I don't like now and vice versa. For me, currently, a good white from Empordà and/or a good red from Priorat cannot be missing from a lunch or dinner. But I don't make anything ugly and I always let myself get carried away in tastings that are proposed to me, learn more about the DO or even wines that are outside, such as paid wines, continue doing wine tourism, discover wines that I always have to try and let myself be carried away by what a wine is, a sensory experience.

In this wine world, you have to contribute your personality, your sense of humor and especially your heart. I think you must give yourself completely if you want to know about the world of wine, which is infinite. That's why I decided to take the leap and create EL BLOG DE MO.
